Sweeny is a Shar Pei cross who's around seven years old and firmly believes there's a lot to be said for being a grown-up.

He's left the puppy stage behind — no tiny land shark phase to navigate, no wondering quite how enormous those paws are going to get, and hopefully considerably fewer questionable life choices involving your belongings.

Instead, Sweeny has grown into a friendly, relaxed boy with a gentle nature and a pretty simple approach to life.

He likes people. He likes other dogs. He likes kids. He's lived happily with cats.

And if his favourite humans happen to be nearby, he's generally pretty content with whatever the day's plans might be.

Sweeny doesn't need to be the centre of attention or have something happening every second of the day. He's just a lovely, steady companion who enjoys being included.

Living With Sweeny:

Sweeny is the sort of dog who makes it pretty easy to imagine him already being part of the family.

He loves children and enjoys being around them, gets along well with other dogs and has happily lived alongside cats.

He's friendly and relaxed when meeting people and enjoys company without demanding everyone's undivided attention.

He's also already got some great foundations in place.

Sweeny is crate trained, knows his basic commands and is settling beautifully into home life. While every dog needs time to adjust to a new environment and routine, you're not starting from scratch with this guy.

He'd be just as happy heading out with his people as he would settling in at home afterwards.

Mostly, Sweeny seems to enjoy the simple stuff — companionship, being involved and having somewhere he belongs.

Sweeny could suit a family, a couple or someone simply looking for a loyal dog to share everyday life with.

He could happily live with children, another friendly dog or cats, making him a pretty flexible little addition to the right household.

He's not asking for endless entertainment or a packed adventure schedule. Walks, outings and things to sniff are always welcome, but so are quiet days at home and simply hanging out together.

What matters most is that he's included.

A comfy bed wouldn't go astray either.

Preferably somewhere he can keep an eye on whatever everyone else is doing.

A Few Things to Know:

At around seven, Sweeny is entering that lovely stage where a dog has grown into themselves.

That doesn't mean he's ready for retirement.

He's still got walks to take, places to explore and plenty of life ahead of him — he's just reached the point where he understands that sometimes doing absolutely nothing together is also an excellent activity.

He already has some good training foundations, but like any dog entering a new home, he'll need time to learn his new family's routine and expectations.

Most importantly, Sweeny is looking for someone who sees seven years old not as "too old", but as a pretty great age to bring a dog home.

Sweeny's Future:

There's something special about adopting an adult dog.

You get to skip some of the puppy chaos and meet a dog whose personality is already right there in front of you.

And what you see with Sweeny is pretty lovely.

He's gentle, social and easy-going. He loves children, can share his life with dogs and cats, and seems happiest simply being part of whatever his family is doing.

He doesn't need to be the loudest dog in the room to make his presence felt.

He just needs someone willing to give him his next chapter.
