Meet Aero

Aero might see the world a little differently, but that isn't stopping this clever young Collie from making the most of it.
Meet Aero

Aero is a smart, affectionate and energetic young Collie with an enormous amount of love to give. He's fantastic with people, wonderful with children and has been doing incredibly well in foster care.

There's one important thing to understand about Aero: his eyesight isn't quite like other dogs'.

Aero has limited vision. He can see, but things aren't always clear to him, particularly at a distance. If he spots a dog, person or another animal but can't work out exactly what he's looking at, he may bark or react. Once he's close enough to understand what's there, the situation generally makes much more sense to him.

It's not something that stops Aero from enjoying life. It simply means he needs a family willing to understand that sometimes his world can be a little blurry and confusing.

Living With Aero

At home, Aero is doing brilliantly. He's housetrained, crate trained, travels well and is making great progress with his basic training.

As you'd expect from a young Collie, he's intelligent, energetic and eager to learn. He's the sort of dog who'll benefit from continuing to use that clever brain through training, enrichment and plenty of opportunities to explore the world safely.

Aero can live around other dogs with appropriate introductions and management. He also has that classic Collie instinct to chase anything that moves - cats and the farm rabbits are particularly exciting!

The slightly amusing part is that Aero will sometimes enthusiastically take off after something... only to lose sight of where it went and be left wondering what on earth happened.

Because of that chase drive, a cat-free home would be our preference.

Aero's Perfect Home

Aero doesn't need sympathy.

He needs understanding.

His ideal family will be patient, confident and willing to give him a little extra time when something in his environment frightens or confuses him.

He'll thrive with people who enjoy training and understand that confidence is something he'll continue building as he grows. Having someone beside him who can calmly show him that unfamiliar things aren't something to worry about will make an enormous difference.

Most importantly, Aero deserves to be treated like what he is - a clever, capable young dog with his whole life ahead of him.

A Few Things to Know

Because Aero can't always clearly identify things at a distance, barking or reactivity can sometimes be his first response to something unfamiliar.

His family will need to continue helping him navigate those situations without forcing him beyond what he's comfortable with.

His Collie chase instinct also means cats and small animals are incredibly tempting, so careful management around them will be important.

None of this defines Aero.

Spend some time with him and what you'll actually meet is a smart, affectionate young dog who adores people, loves children and is discovering more about the world every day.

Aero's Future

Aero may never see the world quite like other dogs do.

But with someone beside him who understands the world he sees, there's absolutely no reason he can't have an incredible life.
